Outbreaks of COVID-19 have struck nine industrial facilities in Vernon, including five meatpacking plants, Los Angeles County health officials said Sunday.The largest outbreak occurred at the Smithfield Foods-owned Farmer John plant — producer of the beloved Dodger Dog — where 153 of 1,837 employees tested positive for COVID-19 between March and May, the Department of Public Health said. The other eight facilities with outbreaks are CLW Foods (meat), Vie De France Yamazaki (baked goods), California Farms Meat (meat), Takaokaya USA (green tea), F. Gavina & Sons (coffee), Golden West Trading (meat), Overhill Farms (frozen food), and Rose & Shore (deli meat and prepared foods).Between five and 24 employees at each of the facilities tested positive, county data show, although it wasn’t clear when those numbers were last updated. Coronavirus In L.A. County: 14 New Deaths And 940 New Cases Confirmed – Deadline
As restrictions begin to slowly lift in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has confirmed 14 new deaths and 940 new cases of COVID-19.
Of those who died, 10 were over the age of 65 years old with two between 41-65 years old. Nine had underlying health conditions with eight people over 65 years old and one person between 41-65. One death was reported by Long Beach and another by Pasadena.
The news comes after Public Health confirmed 41 new deaths and 1,032 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday. As of today, Public Health has identified 44,988 positive cases of coronavirus across L.A. County and a total of 2,104 deaths, with 93% of people who died having underlying health conditions.
L.A. County is currently in stage two of five to the “Roadmap to Recovery”. In order to slow the spread and prevent an overwhelming surge of COVID-19, Public Health will continue to implement directives until stage five.

One hair stylist worked for several days while sick with the virus. Now another stylist has also tested positive. "Now I'm someone directly affected by COVID and I never thought that it would be so close to home," said Erik Chase. Chase visited the Great Clips on S. Glenstone a week ago on Sunday, May 17. The following Saturday, Springfield-Greene County Health Department let him know he'd come in contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus. He's one of the 84 clients who had their hair cut by a stylist who was working while showing symptoms for COVID-19.
